About

I completed my M.B.B.S. from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi in 1983 and Postgraduation in Surgery with gold medal from Delhi University in 1987. I started working upon Endoscopic Surgery at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences and then went for advanced training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery to England. I started doing Independent Laparoscopic Surgery in 1994, when it was still evolving and developed new techniques and methods. Apart from routine Laparoscopic Surgery for gall bladder I am doing Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery for all kinds of Hernia, Appendix, Intestinal problems, masses in the abdomen & kidney problems as well as the latest minimally invasive procedure for piles (Stapler surgery). I am the first Laparoscopic Surgeon in the world to have successfully developed the technique for Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (Removal of Gall Bladder in Stone disease) without using any electricity or energy. Use of electricity/energy in Laparoscopic Surgery has been found to be hazardous leading to crippling and even life threatening situations. These complications at most of the times go unrecognized or are recognized late leading to enormous loss to the patient and the society. Use of electricity/energy can be disastrous or even fatal in heart patients. In India due to lack of patient awareness of this aspect, it goes unnoticed without any accountability on the part of the Surgeon. However, in the west this is being increasingly recognized & many Surgeons are facing litigations for the same. Insurance companies have raised their premiums specifically for this electricity/energy risk. I am the first Surgeon who has demonstrated the Laparoscopic Surgery without using any electricity/energy, at various National & International conferences. I am a Medical Council of India, certified teacher for medical students, having taught for last 20 years. For this I was even recognized the best teacher. Not only in India, I have been the surgical faculty of a renowned medical education group at London and also started their teaching program for the first time in Delhi and trained more than 200 doctors to work in England. In recognition of my surgical expertise, I was posted with the Prime Minister of India, Shri. Rajiv Gandhi as an emergency surgeon. As appreciation of my work, I have received many awards, such as Trophy for being the best resident Surgeon (1987), Samaj Rattan Award, Rashtriya Rattan Award, Gold medal in Yoga etc., apart from being the guest faculty in many National & International Medical conferences. Apart from being life member of various professional bodies, I was conferred the fellowship of International Medical Sciences Academy. I believe in providing the best medical care to the society with no complications, which I believe is possible only if we look at the patient as a human being holistically. This holistic orientation has been strengthened more by my training under Swami Dhirender Brahmachari for a course in Yoga in which I again got the 1st Position and Gold medal. I have been recognized as a proponent of proper Doctor – Patient communication, for which I was invited to speak to the new graduating batch of doctors, at their induction ceremony during an Annual conference at Maulana Azad Medical College. Keeping in mind the need for patient safety I am now imparting the skills of Laparoscopic Surgery without electricity/energy to Surgeons under my training, so that this new technique that I have developed for the first time in the world is adopted by others so that patient safety is ensured.
